During the Sales Tax Holiday, Texas shoppers can enjoy exemptions on most clothing, footwear, and school supplies. Specifically, items like backpacks and school supplies sold for less than $100 are eligible for tax exemption.

Some items, such as hand tools, are excluded from the exemption. A hammer, for example, is taxable even if it is used in fabricating a product for sale.

Grocery stores and convenience stores not only sell food products, they also sell a wide variety of other items and services – some of them taxable, and others nontaxable.
