In Málaga, a city located on the coast of Andalusia, in southern Spain, the climate is Mediterranean, with mild, relatively rainy winters and hot, sunny summers.
To the north of the city, we find a mountain range, the Montes de Málaga, which reach 1,000 meters (3,300 feet) in height.
To the west of Malaga lies the mouth of the Guadalhorce River, and across the river lie the cities of Torremolinos and Benalmádena.
The wind blows frequently: in the cold half of the year, it comes along with Atlantic depressions, while in summer, it blows in the form of afternoon breeze.
The daily average temperature ranges from 12.5 °C (54.5 °F) in January to 26.5 °C (79.5 °F) in August. Here are the average temperatures.

Precipitation is not abundant, since it amounts to 535 millimeters (21 inches) per year, and follows the Mediterranean pattern, in fact, it mostly occurs from October to March, while in summer, it almost never rains. Winter, from December to February, is mild, and is characterized by sunny periods alternating with periods of bad weather, with wind and rain.
There is a good number of sunny days, with daytime temperatures reaching 18/20 °C (64/68 °F). With the wind from Africa, it can even exceed 20 °C (68 °F).
Very cold days are rare, however, in the coldest nights of the year, the temperature generally drops to 1/2 °C (34/36 °F). Therefore, frosts are very rare. The absolute minimum temperature is -4 °C (25 °F), recorded in February 1954. In January 1985, the temperature dropped to -2.5 °C (27.5 °F). From 2000 to 2020, the temperature only dropped to 0 °C (32 °F), in January 2005 and February 2012.
Snow in Málaga is extremely rare. The last snowfall that is remembered is that of February 1954, when there was a historic snowfall in the area around the Strait of Gibiliterra.

Spring, from March to May, is mild and sunny, with rainy days still possible, but not so frequent. In May, and sometimes in April, the first hot days occur, with highs around 30 °C (86 °F).

Summer, from June to mid-September, is hot and sunny. Typically, the temperatures hovers about 228 °C (82 °F) in June and September and around 30/31 °C (86/88 °F) in July and August, the air is humid, but sea breezes blow, in short, it's the typical Mediterranean summer.
However, when the terral wind blows from the interior of Andalusia, the heat can become intense. Fortunately, in this cases, there's a lively wind and the air becomes dry: it is advisable to drink often in order to avoid dehydration.
In fact, on the hottest days of the year, the temperature normally reaches 40 °C (104 °F). The absolute maximum temperature is 44 °C (111 °F), reached in August 1953, July 1978 and July 1994. In August 2020, it reached 43.5 °C (110 °F).

Autumn, from mid-September to November, is initially warm, and then becomes gradually milder, while periods of bad weather become gradually more frequent. In October, there are still many warm and sunny days, especially in the first half. By November, we are in the middle of autumn, with a mild climate, but often cloudy and rainy.
Sometimes, the rains can be abundant and concentrated in a short period of time, and in the past there have been floods.

The amount of sunshine in Málaga is very good in summer, when clear skies prevail. In the other seasons, there are many sunny periods, but cloudy periods are also possible. However, the sunshine in winter is at the highest levels in Europe.

Given the infiltration of water from the Atlantic Ocean, the Alboran Sea is never very warm to swim in: it's still very cool in June, when the water temperature is about 20 °C (68 °F), then it reaches 22 °C (72 °F) in July and September, and 23 °C (73 °F) in August, when it becomes overall acceptable for swimming. Best Time

The best time to visit Málaga for walks and hikes, is spring, in April and May; you can also choose the beginning of autumn, from mid-September to mid-October, although there can sometimes be quite intense rains.
The best time for a beach holiday in Malaga and the Costa del Sol is instead the summer, from June to mid-September. It's better to bring a sweatshirt for cool and windy evenings, especially in the first part of June.
