Professional training! Unexpected: Supporting Clients Through Perinatal Loss & Birth TraumaAre you a professional working with individuals who are navigating pregnancy or preparing for the postpartum period? Or, if your practice is not focused on this population, are you aware that approximately 50% of pregnancies are unintended?Supporting clients through “typical” pregnancies requires specific training. Sadly, however, “typical” pregnancies are not guaranteed. Therapists who work with the perinatal population also need to be aware of how to manage the very real challenges that clients may experience, including things such as perinatal loss and birth trauma.Perinatal loss is something that no parent wants to experience. However, pregnancy and infant loss impact millions of families, worldwide, each year. Approximately 1 out of 4 pregnancies ends in miscarriage, and 1 out of 100 ends in stillbirth. Due to stigma, the number of pregnancies that end due to termination for medical reasons (TFMR) is harder to identify.According to the National Institutes of Health, approximately 45% of new mothers experience birth trauma. Factors such as delivery issues, birth complications, or health issues for mother or baby can have a lasting impact on parents.Working with the perinatal population is extremely rewarding. However, it can also be extremely challenging. At The MotherLoad Collective, we want to ensure that therapists feel informed and empowered in supporting clients through the full range of perinatal experiences. With over 35 years of combined experience and training, Kelsey Mizell and Jane Johnson Wall are committed to helping families, as well as the professionals who work with them. Please join us for a specialized training, focused on the difficult topic of perinatal loss and birth trauma.Covered topics will include:*Understanding the full spectrum of birth trauma & perinatal loss (miscarriage, stillbirth, TFMR, infant loss, maternal morbidity and mortality, etc.)*Providing specialized support for infertility, IVF, and pregnancy loss*Implementing trauma-informed therapy approaches for complex grief & PTSD*Navigating NICU stays and parental trauma*Honoring cultural humility and diverse client experiences*Incorporating self-care strategies for therapists to prevent burnout and secondary traumaWhere: Virtual; open to anyone, anywhereWhen: Friday, September 20th, 11 am- 2:15 pm ESTCost: $120 USD (includes program slides and 2 weeks of access to recorded version)CEU: 3 CEUs approved through RIMHCARegistration https://lnkd.in/d3vfxzqzQuestions? ✨ The MotherLoad Collective is committed to supporting parents through the most transformational experiences they will have! Parenting is exhausting- physically, mentally, and emotionally. And, when we are depleted, it is difficult to hold ourselves to a standard of doing our best as moms. When we feel overwhelmed, our nervous system prepares for a threat, triggering responses like fight, flight, freeze, or fawn. Simply put, mom rage is a stress response to overwhelm. We view mom rage as a kind of fight response – loud, tense expressions of anger. It’s your body’s way of protecting itself, of signaling that it’s too much, and that something needs to change. Your mom rage is an advocate for your unmet needs. Please check out our FREE download on Mom Rage and strategies to mitigate and manage parenting overwhelm. **https://lnkd.in/eHcicWZa**Coming soon: self-regulation workshops for moms**

I'm honored to have been extended the opportunity to be a contributing writer for Rhode Island Moms, an organization that is "passionate about sharing real stories and honest experiences of parenthood." This is a great resource not only for moms in RI and Southern New England, as so much of the content applies to all moms!! Here's my first piece, focused on helping couples prepare for the transition from "partners" to parents."https://lnkd.in/e5TuGqki
